Hi,

As you've probably already noticed, we've switch to the latest phpBB major release (3.x). The forum now provides some new features like flash integration, better code tag, jabber support, attachments, anti-bots, ... and, I hop, a better support of "unread posts".

Please report any trouble or any suggestion about this new tool !

About the phpBB theme, I searched something a bit less heavy than prosilver (a bit too much of "hard blue" for me), but found nothing really interesting ... "Prosilver Special Edition" is quiet good, but have a fixed width (and I hate fixed layouts :) ).

If you know a theme that may fit better to the forum, please let us know ! (And why not, creating our own theme, based on prosilver ?)

Here a few ones I've found:
http://demo.phpbb3styles.net/Tee_pak_green
http://www.sarkis-webdesign.com/free-ph ... yles.html# (at the end there is a yellow version but the demo doesn't work)
http://www.phpbbhacks.com/stylesdemo/index.php?style=33 (a few things to change)

Sadly, the last one have a fixed layout. It could have been a good start for our own theme. I think I'll try to do something based on Maxthon theme, a bit less brighter (to preserve your eyes ;) )

Hi!

I'm currently working on a phpBB3 style for the Raydium forum.

Yeah, I should better concentrate on the live API implementation support for Mac OS X to make this target fully Raydium ready, I've also prepared some things for it, but I'm fancy for this style thing at the moment, you know ... ;)

The style goals try to aim your needs, to give a good usability and of course to present a simple Raydium look.

My first try was to inherit from prosilver, but I've discarded this attempt finally, because prosilver is to complex to edit for me, this costs to much time and also doesn't follow Raydium's guidelines, IMHO. I think it's to overloaded (for me personally).

I've to say that I'm a subsilver(2) fan, so the following theme is very similar to it. Not all details are done yet, I want to show you this here - at this unready state - before I'm going to complete it. Text colors, general icons and so on have to be raydiumized. I'm always trying to create something similar to the main project page, using it for something like a template. I'd initially also tried to include these nice looking dashed gray lines, the yellow top banner and so on, but finally they're not included any more.

Do you like it and should I finish the style? Should it be dropped to the trash and should I start from the beginning to follow any other guideline? Hot or not? Suggestions and comments are welcome.

Best regards,
st

This is looking quiet good ! Much more closer to "Raydium style" than any other attempt :)

If I may, maybe the "forums list background color" is a bit to dark ? not enough colorful ?
Have you any idea about posts background colors ?

Thanks, gradly to hear that the you like the style altogether! :D

I'm now going into the details. I've modified the color values for the rows, but there are much intricacies left to adjust and add.

I'd the idea to add icons with the Raydium "R" instead of the leaflet paper, but this doesn't look so good afterwards, perhaps this kind of icons will be added for popular topics.
The final test will be done with many different browsers available, like FF, IE, Opera, Safari, Chrome and so on ...

Status update, the following items have been raydiumized:
  • Fonts (As on the main project page.)
  • Links (Are Raydium blue on hover. Perhaps to much orange in the forum overview (index)?)
  • Colors (Tried much combinations.)
  • Icons (Animation icons still left.)
  • Added top banner again.
  • Added dashed borders for some form controls and for the overall header.
  • Many other improvements.

I'm now blind on my own creation. Suggestions and comments are always welcome.

Better !

I'm not very good -at all- about aesthetic, color arrangements, and this like this, so take my comments "lightly" :) : IMHO, the yellow for new posts is not enough visible. A "heavier" yellow, and even maybe some orange, can be an interesting test.

What about having very different alternate colors for posts ? I've seen phpbb themes where the first post was with a blue background and the next one with a white background ... I found this more readable to the eyes, when scrolling quickly over a topic, for instance. And quiet beautiful, too :) Maybe with some yellow / light grey alternate colors ?

Thanks for your hints and suggestions for improvement. ;)

You're right. The set of light yellow icons are a touch more orange now. The post background colors are now light gray and light yellow/orange. I've tested these background colors and also the whole style look and feel on different machines with different displays/monitors and different browsers. Final tests are finished.
The style looks perfect to me now, thanks for your help. I would really like to see this style as the default one here, so also unregistered users (guests) see the style by default.

If you want to modify/fine-tune something after installing this style, please don't forget to enable Administration Control Panel -> General -> General Options -> Recompile stale style components.

I really hope most users like and use this style, I'll be one of them. :D

Absolutely nice ! Great job. I'm a big fan of the way "quotes" looks :)

I've set this theme as default one, but didn't applied the change for users that were already using another theme. If you're in this case, you should have a look to this new theme ... :)
