Hi all
In my application I need a good way to use and distrube "objects", like the user can download objects from the net (directly from the app) and have a sort of "Inventary".
So I have started writing my own object format and I give up with something that really looks like a Collada file (a part the xml format). Then I start to dig the web searcing for other objects specifications and I found that Collada seems a good standard to follow.

Ok the point is: why dont make raydium support collada files directly (in parallel of .tri)??
It should not be difficult to read the collada format and crete the mesh from that data. We absolutely don't need to support all the collada feature for now, just the subset we need to start (vertex and tetures??).

What do you think about the idea? If you like the idea I can start writing a draft xml parser (should be really easy) and we can see how it works...

Dave

Hello,

Collada support or other mesh format has been already discussed.

As blender can read collada and write .tri it's not a priority.

BUT collada seem to become quite a standard.

I think that a read collada function can exist in a test program for example. It can be incorporated in raydium directly if it fit raydium spirit ;) (Xfennec is the ultimate keeper of raydium spirit).

But it's not a good news for my full rewrite of blender .tri export : :(

If you need it, it always can exist in your application, so you can begin to write it without any problem.

Have a nice day.
Ouille.

Beware of the the ultimate keeper of raydium spirit !

More seriously, Collada do not have it's place in the engine's core, but is welcome as a contrib, a demo, ... In facts, we already have small Collada -> TRI filter, thanks to paulo (added with rev 609, see the contrib directory)
